So, what can you expect at your child’s first visit? First let me say that as a children’s
specialist, I am dedicated to providing the most pleasant and positive dental experience for your child. In addition, I am committed to providing quality restoration of existing dental problems and to preventing disease in the future.

To that end, the first appointment will be an easy get-acquainted visit. You and your child will be invited into the treatment room where, at a minimum, I will examine your child and we will tailor an oral hygiene/diet strategy to fit your unique family living situation. Usually, we also include a cleaning (prophy) and fluoride application and maybe even x-rays. Your child will experience no discomfort. We are interested in giving him/her an initial positive experience and the opportunity to become accustomed gradually to this new and profoundly different kind of place.

You can help prepare your child for this pleasant first visit by explaining that, “it will be easy” and "Dr. P will count and brush your teeth and maybe even take pictures of them.” You can even role play by lying your child on the sofa and dry-brushing and counting teeth “just like Dr. P does.” Try not to project an anxiety you may have for your child.

A tear or two should not be cause for alarm. Many small children react negatively to new and unfamiliar surroundings. Remember, my staff and I are specially trained to care for the needs of your child. We will work hard to justify your confidence in us.

It will make things smoother if you would download a “Get Acquainted Questionnaire,” complete it and bring it with you to the first visit. Also, please read the note on “Office
